"Advice For Newcomers To Turkey"

I have a foreign teacher. I asked her a question while talking to her about an hour ago. "What would you recommend to a newcomer to Turkey?" I asked. She thought at first and then she started answering my question. According to her, people should prefer big cities and not even set foot in small cities in Turkey. When I asked why, she said, "People living in small city can be very racist." She finds Afyon very cold because she is from Kenya. When I told her it was 8 months of winter here, she said "I wish I hadn't come here". That's why "It would be a big mistake to live in a cold place in Turkey. They should do research and choose a warm place." She said.  According to her, if you are going to stay in Turkey for a long time, you have to find a job with a good income. She is having a lot of trouble with money right now. She even wants to enter "kpss" and work in a public school. I couldn't tell her the truth.  She doesn't

Foreign Language Learning Prejudice In Turkey

I love learning languages. But my family and relatives always say "what will happen when you learn a language". They are the only thing that does not change in this changing world. They can't even speak their own language properly. It's so frustrating when they criticize me. We need to leave them right now. We need to teach everyone the benefits of language learning. I say I'm in the english department and they tell me "everybody knows english now". If everyone speaks English, speak English for two minutes. Everyone is learning a language other than English now. Do you know about that? Technology has improved, language learning has become easier. But you don't even want to know. This is really hard for you. When I say I'm learning Korean, they start using racist expressions. Come on, how would you feel if someone said the same for Turkish? I tell them that Asian languages will be very important in the future. They don't believe me. Fortunat

Literature Of Countries And My Thoughts

English Literature: The British may have written and influenced more about the French Revolution than the French. English literature is a very old literature. They have books and authors dating back centuries. These authors and books still impress us and are very important even today. The authors reflected the period in which they wrote their books very well. Metaphors, loves and every word used in old books take a place in my heart. The books written recently, on the other hand, cause us to question justice again. Even current authors write excellent books. I really enjoy following this literature up-to-date. French Literature:   French literature is a literature that brings together many ideas, probably because of the French Revolution. They have many books from centuries ago that we think about even today. It's a literature that I love very much because writers have many different ideas. Russian Literature: Think twice before reading a book of Russian literature. Because extreme

Turkish Literature

We, who have existed for thousands of years, have a very variable literature.Turkish literature is a literature that has been heavily influenced by other literatures. Turkish literature is a very realistic literature. I know we've been through a lot of traumatic events. While under the influence of these events, it is very difficult to imagine another world and we feel obliged to stick to the present.  The subject of many books written in Turkish literature is about an event that is likely to happen or an event that has happened. We have many quality books written. But now we also need to write about different things. We are still in pain as in the past. Seriously, very poor quality books have been published in the last five years. There are a few valuable writers in Turkish literature right now, real writers. The rest are teenagers who write ridiculous love books. They write their books using only 250 words and they can never think straight. I don't know why this happened. Our

My Overthinking

I've been thinking a lot lately. I think about everything. Now this is starting to affect me badly. Even if I have to focus on something, I can never focus. I'm always thinking of other things. My friends say that my life is beautiful and that I am lucky to have a good family. My life just isn't good. Okay, whether my life is beautiful or not depends on the life we compare. Well, is the life that does not make us happy is a good life? First of all, I didn't choose to live this life. If I had chosen, I would be responsible for this life. Nothing is worth anything to me. I'm not sad, but I'm unhappy. I feel like my dreams won't come true even though I tried so hard. If I live a life that I don't want in my future, will I be responsible for it? You can do this, I tell myself. But then people tell me I'm incompetent. Who should be responsible? I'm tired of being humiliated. No, I'm not trying to be unhappy. Don't tell me the same things aga

Can people think independently?

Philosophy is the whole of our thoughts that have brought us to the present. Since ancient times, people have been asking questions and looking for answers on many topics. I think every person can philosophize because every person can think. Of course, not everyone can do a free philosophy, everyone is dependent on dogmas such as religion and these dogmas prevent us. Of course, religions had to exist somehow. But it is a fact that religions are preventing many people from thinking freely. There are many other factors, not just religion. For example, ideologies. People now choose any existing ideology instead of thinking. They just read a few articles about ideology and that's it. Another example is technology. Yes, the technology is very useful and perfect for saving time. But will we, who don't even want to read books anymore, prevent other people from thinking for us in the future? Maybe because robots will do everything, the people of the future will be the robots of today a

Siddhartha

The book was about Indian philosophy. The main character, Siddhartha, is a person who has devoted himself to Buddha for many years. Siddhartha experiences many events throughout his journey. Although he does not trust any teacher, he encounters many teachers in his life. But one day he meets a woman called "Kamala". He learns to love from this woman. But he has to work because she says she won't teach him for free. As he starts to earn money, he becomes very rich, but leaves his teachings to which he devoted his life. 20 years later, he realizes that he has made a big mistake. He leaves everything and returns to his old life. But this time he begins a more meaningful way. In this way he learns to 'listen'. The river that saved him whispers to him.The book is very meaningful. While I was reading, I saw quotes from "first age" philosophy at many points. I wasn't curious about Indian philosophy, but now I am. Some points didn't make sense to me. But

Manga Recommended By My Brother

My brother loves manga and has been collecting manga for many years. So I asked him what manga would you like people to read? He answered. 1-) Berserk "All in all a perfect series. Just read. I have no words to say. It's the best manga series for me. The plot, the characters, etc. are excellent. The mangaka of the manga died last year. That's why his assistants continue the series. The series continues according to the finished story . According to a series from the 80s, it has a supernatural plot." 2-) Good Night Punpun "Although the mangaka drew the main character as a bird, he is a human. The form changes shape according to the psychology of the character. If you read, you will see. Another reason I love this series is that you can understand the life of a depressed teenager." 3-) Tokyo Ghoul "The level of the characters is very high. The anime is not liked very much because the subject of the anime is very different from the manga. The manga i

Animes Recommended By My Brother

1-) Neon Genesis Evangelion  "This anime is a very nice series in terms of philosophy and psychology. It has a very advanced level of fiction compared to the years it was made. It may seem difficult to understand at first.but you will be very surprised when you understand." 2-) JoJo  "For me, the most important feature of this anime is that there is a different main character in each part. The mangaka must have put a lot of thought into the plot of the anime. It has an unusual drawing style compared to other anime. I love the power system in the anime."  3-) Slam Dunk  "The manga of the anime is a person respected by the Japanese people. he has 3 series about basketball but this is my favourite. Although it is boring in the first chapters, the plot gets better and better. The back stories of the side characters are very good. The fiction doesn't just take place around the basketball court. Mangaka also criticizes the cultural problems of that time. And ther

Anime And Manga

I've been watching anime regularly for the last 3 years. I am not a very social person. There are a few things I do when I feel lonely and one of them is watching anime. Although I have watched many anime so far, a few of them were very special and important to me. They have prejudices against anime watchers. Although it looks like a cartoon at first, it has nothing to do with cartoons. Animes are for all age groups, even adults. Some are sad, some are very emotional, and some are romantic or science fiction. With devoted research, you can find the best anime of its kind. People enjoy watching anime as much as reading the famous Japanese comic books called manga. I'm not interested but my brother is a manga addict. He has a huge collection. He's been collecting these manga for years. He prefers to read the manga of the movie rather than watching the anime. Mangas are works of art that are very difficult to make. manga artists are called mangaka. I respect mangakas a lot bec

My Story With Phrasel Verbs

I went over the tests again two weeks ago. At that time, my friend called and asked if I wanted to go out. I love hanging out with my friends especially on weekends. I was very excited and accepted her offer. But two days later she called again and said she was sick and threw up all over the place. We had to put off the meeting to another week. But that day we decided to hang out with another friend of mine. We ran into her, the sick one, while trying on clothes in the store. My friend, who is sick, met with another friend. I was disappointed. But I managed to calm down. I did not communicate with her at first. But now I still get on well with her.

Why I Don't Watch TV?

Turkish serials are pretty bad lately. especially those on TV. I think they corrupt people's morals. The news can be really sad or frustrating. Also, fake news is very common these and of course, there is news on television that the government wants. B ut when it comes to relying on it, whether to be informed or entertained, it can certainly affect you negatively. I think television weakens the imagination. I can't even think for a while. You watch for hours and you don't realize it. That's why you don't move for hours and hours. I noticed this in my parents. They don't move for two hours while watcing TV. T his is really creepy. TV was wasting my time reading. I used to watch a lot of TV. But I'm so glad I'm not watching anymore. It's best to stay away from anything that has a screen.

Apps For Learning Languages

There are many different ways to learn languages. Technology has advanced a lot nowadays. So the most common way nowadays is to learn with technology. There are certain apps that people use to learn languages. I'm going to talk about them in this blog.  1-) Duolingo  If you want to learn a new language, I think you should use this application. With this app you can learn a language in a simple way. I don't think it's helpful for learning grammar. But it's good to learn a lot of words.but remember it's a good app for basics only. 2-) Quizlet  I have a hard time memorizing words. So it was very good for me to discover this app. The application is very simple and convenient to use. The application becomes difficult when I cannot memorize the word, but it is still a good application. 3-) Voscreen Yhe producers brought together the short film parts according to their subjects. You can choose movie parts according to the subject you want to learn, your level or the words y

Books Taht Fascinate Me - 2

...  5-) One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel García Márquez   This book is the first latin literature book I have read. There are so many names in it. I was very confused while reading it. But the family tree at the beginning of the book was very helpful. The author mixed fantasy with reality. I thought of fantasies as real while reading the book. As if there was nothing wrong. It was the end of the book that impressed me the most. The grandchild born centuries later revealed all the secrets and the life of the whole village changed. 6-) Kusamakura - Natsume Sōseki In the book, the author wrote about the journey of an artist who is looking for himself to the mountains. The main character experienced philosophical events in the villages. As a result of these events, he thought a lot about himself and questioned everything. I read and finished this book on a summer evening. All that summer I thought about myself and my life. My aunt also read the book after me. She called me when she fi

Books That Fascinate Me - 1

There are many books that I think will impress people.I want to talk about all of them but I can't. so I'm going to talk about the books that inspired me. I'm not going to talk about the topics of the books in this blog. I'm going to talk about how books affect me. 1-) 1984 - George Orwell   I finished this book in 2 days. It affected me a lot. It was the first dystopian book I read. It changed my perspective a lot and did it in just 2 days. At the end of 2 days, I was a different person. The book takes place in a world I could never have imagined. Every single thought of the main character seriously gave me goosebumps. 2-) Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoevsky This book is "How would I feel if I killed someone?" It made me ask myself the question. It is a very thick book, but I felt very different emotions while reading it. I wonder how the author of the book felt while writing the book. 3-) Hamlet - William Shakespeare  The best book I've ever read in

Excellent Choice Of Books

I love reading books. My friends don't have this habit. When they want to gain the habit of reading books, they always ask me "which book should I read." And I say to them, "I don't know you, so I don't know which book you'd like." Then they say to me, "So how do I start? Please help me." I'm tired of telling everyone this. If one more person asks, I will tell them to read this blog.  If you've never really read a book before, buy certain short stories called "starter books" and start reading. There is an important point. During this time, you may come across books that you do not like at all. Remember, the important thing is not to give up. "Starter books" consists of about 10 15 books. After reading these, we can now move on to the next level. Now you can start the "Classics".The "Classics" are generally divided into two. One of them "Modern Classics" the other "World Classics

Ephesus

Greek mythology provided the development of many branches such as philosophy. Learning mythology is my hobby. There are several important cities in Greek mythology. Ephesus is one of them. Ephesus is an ancient Greek city located in Izmir. It was founded in 6000 BC. Many civilizations have lived here. It became the capital city by the Roman emperor Augustus in the 1st and 2nd centuries BC. The population at that time was over 200,000 people. And people made many structures from marble at that time. Ephesus was one of the most important port and trade cities of that period. People also gave importance to art and culture like Miletus. I think that's why epics like the Iliad remained from the people who lived there. The city was occupied by the Turks in 1330.The city is still in Turkey and we can visit it.

Languages To Learn

There are many languages in the world. Nowadays, learning some languages has become a necessity. I think the first language to learn is English. The reason is clear. In today's world, we cannot do anything without knowing English. We must learn English.  I think it makes a lot of sense to learn Spanish as a second language. Spanish is a very popular language in Europe and America. I also think it is an easy language to learn. Learning Spanish can help us a lot to learn other languages. It can make it easier for us to learn languages such as Portuguese Italian and French. Finally, In my opinion it is necessary to learn an Asian language. Asian countries have developed a lot economically and culturally. Thir arts and technologies are very popular. Is there anyone who still hasn't listened to a korean song or watched an asian movie or an anime? I don't think so. Even though most of us use a korean brand phone. An article I read on Duolingo says that the most learned lang

Dishes But The Strangest Ones

While I was eating today, a question came to my mind. What is the weirdest thing people eat? I did some research. My stomach is very bad right now. I'm fighting with myself not to throw up. Before doing research, I was sure that Asian countries would be on this list. I was not wrong. I will share a few results that I think are very strange. In China, people prefer chicken feet as a snack. There are many different varieties of chicken feet. The Chinese prefer it as soup, boiled, barbecued or marinated. I was a little curious at first. I'm pretty sure I'm not curious right now. In China, people eat eggs that have been waiting for months as a snack. It may not be convincing. But I saw it on tiktok, the chinese are seriously buying these in packs and eating them. People from other countries vomited when they tried.  And the last one....You'll have goosebumps when you hear this. Octopus is a part of Asian cuisine, especially Korean. Koreans prefer to eat octopus alive. I'v

My First Foreign Friend And Teacher

I started a course 2 days ago. I met a teacher from Kenya there and we got along very well. She said my speaking English is very good. She congratulated me for improving myself very well. She talked to me during recess and asked for my phone number. I was so surprised. It was a big thing for me and naturally I was in shock. When I said that I am a language student and I take English lessons for 15 hours a week, she said that she could always help me and I could contact her whenever I wanted. She is my first foreign friend and teacher. I will talk to her often. She gave me a lot of advice. She's really knowledgeable and I feel like she already cares about me. She is the best.

"Blindness Essay"

Yesterday I finished a book called "Blindness". The book is so impressive that I still think about it. The author is incredibly critical of the system. The book begins with a man suddenly shouting "I've gone blind" in traffic. The man has been blind, but this blindness is different from the others. The man begins to see white everywhere. The author writes in the book, "It's like falling into a pool of milk."  This blindness spreads to everyone. The government finds the solution to this disease, which infects many people, by sending people to a mental hospital building. There is one person among these people, and the whole story is based on her. She is the only one who sees among the blind.  The author did not write the name of any character in his book. He introduced the characters with certain features. And this non-blind woman is also called the "doctor's wife" A lot of amazing things happen in the book. I would love to write them all.

...will be...

I've been planning to do a big book shopping for the last month. Of course, I know which books to buy in my mind, but this event is still very complicated. I have a small budget, but I have a lot of books to buy.The books I will buy are very diverse.I will buy philosophy books in general and I want novels as well. My budget is only enough for 15 books. I'd better show my philosophy teacher the philosophy books I'm going to buy. I hope she will help me make the right choices. I'll be ordering those books this time on Monday. My current guitar is very old. I've been improving my guitar playing lately and it's time for me to get a more professional guitar. But there is something noticeable; my budget is not enough for this. How about if I ask my father for help? Will he help me? I believe he will. They are going to buy a new house according to the current news in the house. It doesn't make sense. It's winter and moving house will be a torture. I cannot pers
